Foreign Dialogues vol. 2: Melbourne Design Week 2024

May 23 - June 30, 2024

‘Foreign Dialogues Vol.2’ exhibition, an event a part of Melbourne Design Week 2024, on the 29th of May at 6pm at 437 High Street, Prahran. Curated by director
Dominika Kuthova, this second edition of ‘Foreing Dialogues’ explores Ethics in collectable design.
On the night, you will get to enjoy a wine selection by Hentley Farm, a single-estate boutique winery nestled amongst rolling hills in the west of the Barossa Valley established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke, featuring both traditional and emerging varieties from the region.
In the realm of collectible design, where creativity converges with functionality and aesthetic appeal, the ethical responsibilities are multifaceted and extend beyond traditional design principles. Cultural sensitivity emerges as one of the ethical dimensions. Collectible design frequently draws inspiration from diverse cultural elements.
FIN Gallery presents FAINA, a brand of live Ukrainian design founded by Ukrainian architect, designer and artist Victoria Yakusha in 2014 after the Revolution of Dignity. Victoria Yakusha is one of the most famous Ukrainian architects worldwide, whose artistic endeavours shape contemporary Ukrainian design as a brand. She creates heritage—the ideas and objects that gain power, meaning, and value over time and impact the culture of future generations. As a part of the exhibition prog FIN Gallery is hosting a Designer Talk titled ‘Live Minimalism’ by
Victoria Yakusha on 31st of May at 6-8pm.
The FAINA’s brand collections include furniture, lighting, decor and home scents holding deep roots in Ukrainian cultural heritage. In its primitive designs, FAINA evokes ancient symbols, revives ancestral crafts and passes on the history of its land — the crucial elements of FAINA’s ‘live design’ philosophy. Each design piece is endowed with a living soul in the process of hand-crafted creation by Ukrainian artisans.
