FIN Gallery Presentation at THEMA Milan Design Week 2024
At THEMA Milan Design Week, from April 15th to 21st, FIN Gallery is set to present a compelling juxtaposition of two artists whose works sit on opposite ends of the artistic spectrum. This unique showcase features Czech designer Tadeáš Podracký and Australian artist Catherine Coady, highlighting the contrasting yet complementary nature of their artistic expressions and concepts. The event will take place in a monumental 1950s industrial building located just five minutes from Linate Airport, serving as the perfect backdrop for this meeting of creative worlds.
THEMA specializes in historical and contemporary design and art, fostering a committed, inclusive, and sustainable approach. By breaking down the traditional trade fair barriers, both in substance and form, THEMA offers an innovative scenography that aligns with its core values, promoting new aesthetics and redefining the raw landscape of the post-industrial architectural space.
Tadeáš Podracký, a graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and the Design Academy in Eindhoven, is known for his intricate explorations of form and material. His works transcend the boundaries of design objects into the realm of fine art. Utilizing primarily organic materials such as wood, Podracký's creations are complex sculptural pieces that camouflage their original utilitarian functions, reflecting his emotional and intuitive approach.
Podracký's 'The Bloom of Bones,' delves into the intersection between traditional folk rituals and contemporary urban life, framed within the context of pagan and Christian mythologies. Through his series of five works, including the 'Bark and Veins' totem, Podracký explores the narrative potential of myth to establish a deeper connection between objects and individuals. Central to this series is a sculptural relief embodying death as a rejuvenating skeleton adorned with human and floral elements, blurring the boundaries between life and death. His works invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with everyday objects, exploring the symbolic significance and transformative power of myth.
In stark contrast, Catherine Coady’s work embodies a clinical and structural approach, utilizing acrylic and polycarbonate as her primary medium. Her precise creations reflect a meticulous attention to detail and a focus on the material's inherent properties. Coady's works are characterized by their clarity and precision, offering a stark, modern aesthetic that contrasts with Podracký's organic forms.
Presented work 'MIND FOOD' is a large-scale artwork , meticulously crafted from white perspex acrylic. This luminous, glossy white piece contains 28 round replica white pills encased in clear acrylic capsules. The pristine appearance of these pills reflects light, casting a mesmerizing glow within the space they inhabit. This piece serves as a contemplation on the vulnerability of the human mind, symbolizing the balance between fragility and resilience. Through the symbolism of medication, meditation, and white light therapy, it explores the journey towards mindfulness and holistic well-being.

The presentation at THEMA Milan Design Week showcases the harmonious contrast between Podracký and Coady, demonstrating the diverse range of contemporary artistic expression. While Podracký's work is rooted in emotional, intuitive, and organic exploration, Coady's pieces reflect a clinical, structural, and modern approach. This juxtaposition not only highlights their individual talents but also invites viewers to explore the broader spectrum of artistic possibilities.
By presenting these two artists side by side, FIN Gallery at THEMA aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse approaches to art and design.
