In 30 Years of Drawing, Finkelstein Gallery presents works from the archives of Artist Lisa Roet, representing thirty years of her drawing practice. Including sketches from the Berlin Zoo made while the Berlin Wall was falling, to large scale studio drawings. Roet aligns the processes of her drawing practice with a recently completed video work titled WE ARE ANIMAL, created with Chinese Artist Shen Shaomin. First shown in part at the Adelaide Festival 2016 at The Experimental Art Foundation,WE ARE ANIMAL is a performance piece utilising hypnosis to travel into the depths of the subconscious to uncover primal language and "our inner animal self". Roet describes her drawing practice as created by 'tapping' into her psyche in the same way hypnosis appeals to the subconscious self. Each drawing contains hundreds to thousands of moments sourced through the recesses of the sub conscious and placed onto paper.
