Born 1979 in Portugal, arrived in Australia 2013. Marta Figueiredo is a Portuguese architect & multidisciplinary artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. In 2016, she founded her design & artistic practice which unites innovative technology and craft to produce playfulness, joy, and sensory experimentation. With her projects, she wants to challenge beliefs about design, architecture, standardisation, sustainability, and prompt discussions about new ways design can speak to a broader sensory experience. With this approach, Marta is pushing into a new kind of artistic expression in design that aims to instigate a richer, more layered interaction between individual and object. Marta is especially fascinated by AI technology and the use of real-time data with interactive sensors to develop new types of sensory and immersive experiences that will awoke emotional reactions from her audience. She has recently focused on the possibilities and uses of waste materials, as well as the ecological narratives that might be produced to address our times. Marta has received various awards ( commendation Clarence prize for excellence in furniture design 2021) and nominations (finalist Australian Furniture Design Award 2020). She exhibited in Australia and internationally, including Shanghai, Paris, Brussels collectible fair, Milan design week and collections (metaphors – HERMÈS holding textiles).
